A Visit to Hidcote Gardens

Inspiration can be found in the most wonderful of places - and here at Mooch, we feel very lucky indeed. Surrounded by idyllic English countryside, gorgeous Cotswolds towns, and an abundance of local flora and fauna, beauty is never far from our door. One of the most extraordinary places to experience everything this corner of the world has to offer is Hidcote Gardens, just a short distance from our Chipping Campden shop.

Acquired by the National Trust and welcoming visitors from all around the world, Hidcote is a truly remarkable place - and one we think deserves a spot at the very top of your Cotswolds itinerary.

A Garden Like No Other

Hidcote Gardens is celebrated for its Arts and Crafts-inspired design, created by the talented American horticulturist Major Lawrence Johnston. Rather than a single sweeping landscape, the gardens are laid out as a series of distinctive “outdoor rooms,” each with its own unique character, planting scheme, and atmosphere. As you wander from room to room, there is always something new and surprising waiting just around the corner.

The gardens are home to a wonderful variety of rare and exotic species, carefully curated and maintained to ensure floral delights throughout every season. From precisely manicured borders and formal garden rooms close to the house, to wilder woodland walks that blend seamlessly into the surrounding countryside - Hidcote offers a beautifully layered experience that changes with every visit.

Top tip: Hidcote is magical in every season - spring brings a riot of colour, whilst autumn offers a quieter, more contemplative beauty. Try to visit more than once if you can.

A Photographer's Paradise

With its stunning views, unique design, and captivating plant life, Hidcote Gardens is an absolute haven for photographers. Whether you're a seasoned professional or simply love capturing beautiful memories, the gardens offer endless opportunities for breathtaking shots at every turn. The interplay of light, colour, and structure makes it one of the most photogenic gardens in England.

A Wonderful Day Out for All the Family

Hidcote is also a truly lovely day out for families. The grounds offer plenty of space for children to explore freely, and there are often interactive trails and seasonal activities to keep little ones engaged and inspired. It’s the kind of place that sparks curiosity and wonder in visitors of all ages.

Whether you are a passionate garden enthusiast, a lover of history and design, or simply in search of a peaceful and beautiful escape, Hidcote Gardens has something truly special to offer. If you are planning a visit to Chipping Campden, we would wholeheartedly encourage you to add this wonderful place to the top of your list. We think you’ll fall in love with it - just as we have.
